The Jungle Book (1967) is a kung fu film, produced by Hong Kong cinema studio Golden Harvest and directed by Shaw Brothers Studio head Lai Man-Wong. The film stars Alan Tam, Maggie Cheung, and Philip Chan, with English-language voice-over by Peter Ustinov. It was the last Hong Kong film to feature Tiger Huang's character Tiger Li. It was released in the United States on December 3, 1967. The film was an adaptation of the English-language Mowgli series by Rudyard Kipling, which was released in 1967 in the U.S. as The Jungle Book (a.k.a. The First Jungle Book). It is the only movie in this series that does not feature Mowgli and includes a little boy named Bandar.
Mowgli, who lives among the animals, is threatened by the human hunter Akela, the leader of a wolf pack, and is brought by an orangutan named Bagheera to a pack of jungle wolves. Akela cannot bear the thought of being edged out of the pack, so he challenges Mowgli to a fight. Mowgli defeats him, but the other wolves refuse to accept him as a member of the pack. Bagheera returns him to the human village, where he receives a hot welcome as an endangered but much-needed animal.
In the final chapter, Mowgli discovers how to live in the jungle and is encouraged to learn how to use his wits to survive in human society. He feels free to disobey the hunting laws, and enjoys a life of freedom. However, he learns that he must work hard and be obedient for his own safety. For the villagers, he is a curious, dangerous, dangerous boy who must be tamed. Mowgli's first lesson is to obey his elders because they will help him survive, and he is taught how to hunt, ride, hunt, and shoot.
